Chapter 12 - Balancing
Billy comes to visit, and though Jacob doesn’t believe in the old legends, Billy does. After watching the ball game at Charlie’s, he leaves warning Bella, “You take care, Bella.” The next day, Edward’s Volvo is waiting out for her, again. The day speeds by; he’s leaving with Alice to hunt, at the end of lunch. Edward explains to Bella that people are generally predictable, but Bella takes him by surprise. Rosalie gives Bella a scary stare, which causes Edward to growl, and he explains to Bella that she’s a danger to the entire family, “if this ends… badly.” Alice appears, and Ed introduces Bella to Alice. They leave; Bella continues the day to find her truck safely parked where Ed’s Volvo was. The keys are in the ignition, and there’s a simple note in his handwriting inside, “Be safe.” Bella manages to lie rather smoothly about her date with Edward, telling Mike that she’s not going to the dance at all, that Ed is out for the weekend, and then telling Jessica that she’s actually not going to Seattle with Edward, and using the laundry and homework excuse on her dad. Bella doses herself out on cold medicine and sleeps the whole night away. On Saturday, Edward is outside waiting for her, and they take her truck. They drive out to a trail, and walk towards the meadow…
