Chapter 4 - Invitations
The days after the accident go by badly for Bella since Edward and she basically mutually ignore each other (apparently). Edward’s re-entry into the world is foreshadowed and built up to by a series of “invitations,” as the boys of Bella’s senior class at Forks High School each take their turn trying to ask her out to the Spring Dance (which was supposed to be girl’s choice). First Mike, then Eric, and then Tyler–as he rushes out from his car jammed in afterschool traffic to ask Bella out. Edward had purposefully blocked his car between them to — as he explains, when he confronts her the next day — give everyone a chance. Edward then asks Bella if she’d let him take her to Seattle. Bella is ready to deny him, but Edward musters up all his charms–and Bella goes giddy and can’t do anything but nod.
The chapter ends ominously, with Edward saying, “You really should stay away from me… I’ll see you in class.”

Not really related to the discussion on book 4 (sorry to miss the discussions but I am in bed when you meet) but I found this statement by Stephen King (http://sqt-fantasy-sci-fi-girl.blogspot.com/2009/02/stephen-king-says-twilight-author-cant.html) and I thought it might be good food for thought for you
I think Stephen King is too much of a guy guy guy, you know? Twilight Book 1 is brilliant imho - it’s rare that you can capture that quintessential innocence and beauty of a teen girl falling in love — seriously falling in eternal love — for the first time. Twilight does that - whilst taking you down a walk on memory lane, and beyond…
